There is no single “Cebu to Bohol ferry” that is best for everyone. Tagbilaran is the most useful arrival for Panglao and the southern half of Bohol, Getafe gives the shortest crossing from Cebu City, and Tubigon is useful for vehicles and western Bohol.

The normal choice: take the fast ferry to Tagbilaran
If Bohol means Panglao, Alona Beach, Tagbilaran or the usual first-time circuit, a fast ferry to Tagbilaran is the simplest choice. OceanJet publishes numerous Cebu-Tagbilaran departures and the crossing is normally around two hours.
Cebu ferries use the city port area, and the exact pier is printed on the ticket. In Tagbilaran, taxis, tricycles and transfer vehicles continue to Panglao and other parts of Bohol. Do not assume the ferry ticket includes that road transfer.
Weather matters more here than on a bus route. Leave some margin if you have a flight or another ferry connection later the same day.
Cebu to Getafe
Getafe sits on the northwestern side of Bohol and is much closer to Cebu City by sea. Current published schedules put the fast crossing at roughly 1 hour 15 minutes with fares around ₱500 for standard passenger classes.
This is genuinely useful if your destination is northern Bohol. It is usually a false economy for Panglao because you save time on the boat and then spend much longer on the road.
Cebu to Tubigon by ferry or RoRo
Tubigon is another practical west-coast gateway. Current passenger sailings take roughly two to three hours depending on vessel, with published passenger fares starting around the high ₱300s. RoRo services also make this the route to look at when taking a vehicle across.
Vehicle fares are separate from passenger fares and depend on size and vessel. Confirm check-in requirements because vehicles normally need to be at the port earlier than foot passengers.
Which option should you choose?
- Choose Tagbilaran for Panglao, Alona Beach and the most common Bohol itinerary.
- Choose Getafe when northern Bohol is your real destination.
- Choose Tubigon for western Bohol or when travelling with a vehicle.

Normal Things to do in Bohol
Bohol is easier to plan when you stop thinking of it as one destination. Panglao is the beach base, Tagbilaran is the transport hub, and the Chocolate Hills, tarsier sanctuaries and Loboc area sit inland. A scooter gives freedom if you are already comfortable riding, but hiring a driver for an island day is common and removes the need to navigate unfamiliar roads. If you want evenings on foot, Panglao around Alona has the most concentrated choice of restaurants and rooms. For a quieter stay, move away from that strip and accept that you will use more transport.

Practical tips
- Check which Bohol port you are booking before paying. Tagbilaran, Getafe and Tubigon are not interchangeable.
- Allow weather margin around important onward connections.
- Arrive early enough for port security and check-in, especially when travelling with a vehicle.
